Darren Finlay, the academic manager for UNSW external campuses, along with the head teachers for Physics, Chemistry and Design lead the professional development.
Darren began the meeting by briefly introducing the program in which he mentioned that UNSW Global was the pioneer foundation program in Australia. The UFS program brand effect in China is widely recognized in the field of education and has become increasingly successful over the past few years.
Teachers were then given separate training relating to their subject. The head design teacher performed two demonstration lessons at Nanjing Foreign Language School Xianlin Campus and Wuxi Xishan Senior High School. The physics head teacher concentrated on training in the Physics labs.
The professional development was a success and the foreign teachers gave positive feedback upon its completion.

On May 26th 2015, at China’s Great Hall of the People, both Prime Ministers from Australia and China attended the signing ceremony and witnessed the signing between the Chinese National Energy Administrator Zhang Guobao and the UNSW Principal. Under the Torch plan, the first overseas base has been allocated at the UNSW innovational industrial park. The Chinese Government agreed to a first phase investment of one billion Australian dollars. The Prime Minister Li Keqiang announced that the UNSW China “Torch Plan” base will be a very important strategical, hi-tech incubator for the Chinese government.
