NFLS Xianlin International Department go for field study

From November 16 to 18, 2023, NFLS Xianlin International Department organized a variety of agricultural activities in Jiangning Jiahe Field Study Base. The students also tried many activities that had never been touched before, such as making dumplings, cooking cauldron, grinding soybean milk, digging sweet potatoes, turning over the land, picking tea leaves and other agricultural activities, as well as movie nights, bonfire parties and games on the grass. During this period, the students practiced by themselves, students have gained new agricultural skills, experienced the hardships of doing agricultural work, and gained a lot of physical and mental relaxation.

Learning is not only in the classroom and between books, but also delves into all aspects of life and society. The sweet potatoes in the fields, the tea fields in the countryside, and the fruity autumn carry the changes of life. At this season, delving into the fields to work, understanding the nature of life circle, and experiencing the glory of labor passed down from generation to generation on the land.

Students who have never taken farm tools shoulder a shovel to loosen the soil and dig the ground, and dig sweet potatoes. Although we have never done these tasks before, everyone followed the example of the instructor and learned from them. Although it was a bit cold, seeing the big sweet potatoes obtained through manual labor, the cold and fatigue disappeared without a trace. The students also learned a lot of farming knowledge, such as how to use the principle of leverage to plow the soil, and felt the beauty of field labor.

The green tea leaves are wafting with a refreshing fragrance, and the autumn sun is shining brightly. Classmates are in pairs, carrying baskets to learn tea picking skills in the tea field. In the midst of laughter and joy, the small basket is already filled with tender green tea leaves. Coincidentally, it was also the season when camellias were blooming. The girls also used camellias and willows to weave flower wreaths, which became a beautiful scenery in the field.
